Use daylight to reduce
electric bill

Jim Bredar takes advantage of the natural light from
windows, saving on his
family’s electric bill and decreasing greenhouse gas emissions.
Summer is a great time to decrease your electric bill while decreasing
greenhouse gas emissions. You can drastically cut down on your lighting costs by
using the long hours of natural light. Clever positioning of yourself and
furniture helps! When you do need to turn on a light, a compact fluorescent bulb
will use about 75% less energy without the heat of a regular bulb. Generation of
electricity is the number one cause of greenhouse gas emissions in the United
States. By reducing your use of electricity, you are also reducing the amount of
greenhouse gas emitted by the power plant.
