More great gifts for the environment

Metal water bottles like these are fun to use and last for years. Filtering your own water in a pitcher (or using water straight from the tap) eliminates the need for water being transported by truck.

Gifts that help the environment include reusable items that eliminate the need for throwaways.
A high-end long-lasting metal water bottle makes an unusual gift, and is designed to avoid chemical leeching into your drinks.
How about tote bags for shopping? Some stores like Kroger will even reduce your cost when you bring your own bags.
The Boyle County Public Library sells a well designed sturdy bag that is comfortable on your shoulder, even with heavy items (like books!).
To make it easy for someone to avoid using paper products, make a big stack of attractive cloth napkins or cleaning cloths.
Consider giving a decorative or shade tree. Trees can help absorb carbon dioxide from the air, which helps cut down on global warming gas.  Also a well placed tree can reduce energy use by shading a home in summer, or blocking wind in winter. A bush that birds or butterflies like is a unique gift that will be enjoyed year after year.
Another way to help the environment is to purchase holiday gifts from an environmental organization that you wish to support.
    Happy shopping!
